A taste of the Outback with @AnnBHarrison #interview

I have the lovely Ann back on my blog today with her novel Outback Thunder.

Welcome back, Ann.

*smiles*

Thanks for having me Doris.

Q. Can you tell us a bit about yourself that we don't already know?

A. I've been writing for five years now. The first four were hard while I learned the craft but I think I've finally got it right now. I live in sunny (well most of the time) Australia.

Q. What made you write ‘this’ story?

A. I love outback stories being a country girl at heart. I grew up on farms so it's something that comes easy to me sharing what I know.

Q. Tell us about your cover.

A. My dear friend Annie Seaton made it for me. She is a very talented lady.

Q. Describe a typical day’s writing for us

A. Oh dear, my addiction to social media is coming out. That is the first thing I always do, check my emails and Facebook. Terrible I know but we writers have to be out there.

Q. What inspires you?

A. A dream, a place or a person. Even a name can get the brain churning over on a story. For example, I was watching my grandson at a motor cross event and met a little boy called Casa. There is a whole series churning around in my head because of that meeting. Hopefully next year I will be heading to Greece for research into the paranormal side of the books. It is under sufferance too I might add, not.

Q. If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

A. A farmer with lots of rescued animals.

Q. Do your characters ever surprise you?

A. Constantly. Its hard to keep up some of the time.

Q. What could not do without when you’re writing?

A. My laptop. We are a team.

Q. What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?

A. Never ever give up.

Q. Where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

A. I would love to say in every book store. That will take some doing but I'm working on it.

Q. Do you have a favourite quote?

A. You can fix a bad page but you can't fix a blank page - Nora Roberts

Thanks for having me Doris, I love talking to you.

Thanks for stopping over again, Ann.

Fancy a little Irish Seduction today? Interview with @AnnBHarrison

Happy Humpday, folks!

In true Humpday tradition I bring you a hunk, called Jasper. He is Ann Harrison's hero and she's pinned in my hot seat today to tell you about Irish Seduction.

So glad to have you here, Ann.

Q. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

A. Sure, I live in the desert in Queensland Australia. At the moment it is sunny and a very nice 27 degrees Celsius heading for 34. Definitely lounging by the pool weather.

Wow, definitely pool weather!

Q. What made you write ‘this’ story?

A. I wrote a Young Adult novel and Jasper is one of the main characters. I loved him so much I decided to write his story. A spunky Irishmen deserves his own book in my mind.

Q. Tell us about your cover.

A. How beautiful is it? When I put in the art form I asked for something light. Mina really got it right first time, it was just as I imagined it would be. I cried when I saw it.

Q. Describe a typical day’s writing for us.

A. First up in the morning I do all the social media and email stuff. If I didn't I would be going back and forward and never get anything done.
Then I go to my WIP. I try to do at least two thousand words a day. I know it's not much really but some days when those words just don't want to flow it's a heap. On a good day I will get down five thousand.

Q. What inspires you?

A. It can be anything, a name, a song or a dream. It always hits me when I least expect it too so if I'm away from my computer I use my iPhone for notes so I don't lose the story.

Q. If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

A. A farmer, it's what I know best growing up as a country girl.

Q. Do your characters ever surprise you?

A. All the time. I'm a definite pantser through and through. Even when I tried to plot (and it doesn't happen very often) my characters blow it out of proportion. I can imagine them looking at me nodding their heads conspiring against me. "Well just look at that wee lassie trying to tell us what to do. Let's show her a thing or two aye?"
Get my drift.  I had a character kill another main character off in a forthcoming book and I bawled my eyes out. It wasn't how I imagined it was going at all but the story is great now because of it.

Lol, that sounds so familiar!

Q. What could not do without when you’re writing?

A. My laptop. It goes with me everywhere. When we travel I write, when we go camping I write. Have laptop - makes Ann a happy girl. My husband said it is attached to my fingers, LOL.

Yep, my husband has been known to say that too ;-)

Q. What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?

A. Don't give up, seriously don't. If writing means that much to you, keep going no matter how many knocks you get. They make you stronger and help you grow as a writer.

Q. Where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

A. I write full time now but I would love to crack into the Big Six market. I want to get a wider range of readers and that is the goal I have set myself.

Q. Do you have a favorite quote?

A. A few actually but I love this one from Pink (she plays loudly in the background when I'm seriously immersed in a heavy scene.)
Wounded people are dangerous because they know they can survive.

Q. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?

A. I don't believe there is any such thing actually but that's just my opinion. Your brain goes 24/7. Just because you don't like what its coming up with doesn't mean it's writers block.

Certainly a different way to look at it :-)

Q. What other books can your readers look forward to?

A. I have another Rural Romance just out. Outback Thunder is about a young couple broken apart when they were barely out of their teens. They are reunited after a family tragedy and have to confront the passion that still sparks between them.

Q. And finally can you share an excerpt with us?

My pleasure Doris.
Excerpt - Irish Seduction

He longed to crawl into his bed and let her take over his body. The blood rushed through his veins, burning while he recalled last night's dream.
The velvet curtains around his bed moved soundlessly and the heavy fabric parted. As she stood, the light of the moon behind her, her hair shone like gold and shimmered over her shoulders. Her sheer white cloak fell in soft folds around her body, showing off the shape of her full breasts, the soft curve of her hips, and the small indentation of her navel down to the dark shadow at the apex of her thighs. She ran the tip of her tongue along her full, bottom lip leaving a gloss of moisture that he ached to taste. She lifted her chin and the cloak dipped, revealing her naked rose-tipped breast.
He sucked in a breath. The woman was magnificent and he yearned for her body beneath his.
A small sigh escaped her mouth when she reached out to touch him. Jasper gasped at the touch of her fingers toying with his bare chest, skimming over his nipples, and sending electric shocks through his body, straight down to his cock. She leaned in closer, her scent rocketing through his brain.
She lifted her hand and drew down the covers, leaving him exposed to her eyes in the pale candlelight.
Jasper reached out a shaking hand as he debated sliding his fingertips across her face. Would she disappear if he touched her? Pleasure replaced his trepidation as she leaned her soft cheek against his hand and the dream remained unbroken. Her face turned into his hand and she kissed his palm, her tongue darting across the rough skin, sending sensuous ripples down his spine. She pushed him back on the pillows, and with a smile, traced a pattern over his face and down his neck with her lips.
The cloak was discarded and fell to the floor. She knelt beside him on the bed, her body naked and pale in the soft light of the candles. His body hardened more and he reached out again to grab hold of her, but once again she pushed him back.
"Let me," she whispered, dipping her head low over his body.

This sounds fab, Ann. Thanks so much for sharing with us today!

Guest Interview with Ann B. Harrison

Join me in a warm welcome to Author Ann B. Harrison, as she answers my nosy questions.

*pulls out a chair for Ann*

Make yourself at home, Ann :-)

Hi my name is Ann B Harrison and I write rural romance, erotic romance and young adult.

Hi, Ann, so nice to have you here today.

Q. Can you tell us a bit more about yourself?

A. Wow, where do I start? I'm not that interesting really. Big book freak which is how I got started writing. The voices in my head drove me insane to the point that I had to start getting their stories out. I love how my life is turning out.

Q. What made you write ‘this’ story?

A. I love erotic romance. Simple really. I had a trip to San Francisco this year with a friend and loved the place. We took a bus tour down the coast to Carmel and I knew I wanted to write a story set in this region. I just had to wait for Red to make up his mind to join me and what an entry he made.

Q.Tell us about your cover.

A. How hot is that? I hunted for ages for a photo I liked and I kept coming back to this one. My dear friend Annie Seaton made it for me. She is such a clever lady. I am so techno challenged it's not funny.

Q. Describe a typical day’s writing for us

A. I check my emails before I get out of bed. Terrible I know but hubby and I have had this tradition for 35 years. He makes me tea in bed every morning before I get up, (because when I was pregnant I couldn't function without it) and he still does it. So I know before I get up how my day will pan out. I usually do my social media and emails first then I hook into my writing or editing depending on what needs to be done. I very rarely go anywhere without laptop or my iPhone so I can always work.

Q. What inspires you?

A. Anything, that's a hard one because it just happens. When I wrote Taming the Outback, my first book, it was just driving through some country that I hadn't seen before. I started to wonder what it would be like if someone left me a farm and it raced on from there. Before the end of the day I had that story all but written in note form and the next one Mistress for Magnus plotted as well. I can go weeks without getting a single good idea and other days they come thick and fast. I told a friend who has just started writing that once you become a writer, your mind is no longer your own. She is finding that out now and it's driving her crazy.

*nods*  I so agree!

Q. If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

A. A farmer, mixed animals, small crops. I'm a country girl at heart, born and bred. I have to have my animals and plants around me. Typical earthy person.

Q. Do your characters ever surprise you?

A. All the time. I think we are heading in one direction and before I know what's happened, they blind sight me and I'm left reeling.
I think the one that shocked me the most was in my Young Adult book Witchling. In book three, one of my characters gets killed off and I bawled my eyes out. I didn't see it coming at all and my beta readers were very upset too. But it made the story so who am I to complain. I just do as they tell me.

Oh that sounds so very familiar.

Q. What could not do without when you’re writing?

A. Black tea, weak and hot. I go through gallons of the stuff. I'm tea total and I have the kettle boiling again before I finish my cup.

Q. What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?

A. Don't ever give up, ever. I got turned down heaps before I got my first contract. You learn so much along the way, if it's a passion for you, fight for it.

Q. Where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

A. Soaking up the sun in Italy or Greece would be nice. Ha ha ha. Seriously, I want to be able to write full time with no backup job. I'm sure there are many writers out there who say the same thing. Unfortunately I'm not there yet but fingers crossed. That's my goal and I'll give it my best shot. Maybe this time next year.

Q. Do you have a favourite quote?

A. A couple actually. One from Nora Roberts always sits in the back of my mind on a bad day writing.
'You can fix a bad page but you can't fix a blank page.'
I saw the following one on P!nk's  website and I'm sure it will make a great book one day. Dark and dangerous.
'Damaged people are dangerous because they know they can survive.' Gets the imagination going, doesn't it?

Oooh, yes I like that!

Q. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?

A. I'm not sure there is any such thing really. I've read so many opinions on this and here is mine for what it's worth. Your brain never stops thinking. There are always thoughts running through it so if that is the case you should be able to write them down. They may not be the ones that you want but look at my first quote and take heart. Getting something down is the key. You can always fix it later. I get constantly surprised when I write what I think is garbage because what I want will not come down. I go back later and it usually makes sense.

Q. What other books can your readers look forward to?

A. I have 'Taming the Outback' and 'Mistress for Magnus' out now. Both are available through Breathless Press and Amazon
My YA book Witchling is out under my pen name Ari Harper available from Lycaon Press and Amazon

Q. And finally can you share an excerpt with us?

Here you go.

“If you keep squeezing my ass like that I won't make it to the bedroom.” He groaned as she did it again, laughing at his reaction.
“We have all night Red. I'm sure you won't mind it I have an orgasm or two before you make love to me, in fact I'll insist on it. Why would I worry if you do as well? What's good for the goose and all that.” She looked up at him with a big grin on her face.
Letting go of his ass she wound her fingers through his and pulled him down the hallway and into a large corner room. The long windows in the room reached the ceiling giving clear views over the bay the same as the lounge. The focal point of the room was the huge four poster bed covered in feminine pink and cream pillows piled high against the headboard. Through an open doorway he spotted a freestanding tub in an equally sumptuous bathroom.
Rhian grabbed the collar of his jacket and peeled it down over his shoulders, letting it drop to the floor. She hooked her fingers over his ears and removed his thick glasses, tossing them on to the bed. His t-shirt followed. She tweaked his nipples playfully, glancing up at his face before kneeling in front of him. He stood still as she unclipped his boots and lifted his feet, throwing his footwear away.
He held his breath as she leaned up and popped the button on his jeans. When her fingers ran the length of him before she undid the zip he almost cried out in agony. It had been too long since anyone had touched him. She slid his jeans from his hips, smiling up at him, a wicked gleam in her eyes. His boxers were tented out in front of him, leaving her in little doubt about his present state of mind.
With soft caresses, Rhian ran her fingers from the tip of his cock to his balls. She squeezed his  sac, rolling his balls in one hand and used the fingers on her other hand to rub the head until he was thrusting against her palm.

Thanks for having me Doris, it's been a blast.
