"Come here."
With those two husky words he held her in thrall,
and the last of her worries fled. She stepped closer, close enough for him to
hook two fingers under her chin. The slight contact grounded her further, his
calloused fingertips tracing a trail of awareness across her sensitive skin. He
smiled and the approval in his eyes warmed her frozen soul.
"That's my girl. I should paddle your ass for
believing the rumors, but first I need to do this."
Anticipation made her toes curl under and she closed
her eyes as he drew closer still. Their breaths mingled, and his achingly
familiar scent enveloped her. The very essence of him was imprinted in her
soul, so unmistakable, even on her best friend's clothes. She tensed recalling
that heart stopping recovery, her now ex-friend's laughter ringing in her ears.
"Did you really think you could keep a man like
him, little mouse."
Hearing his pet name for her from Sarah's lips had
cheapened it, turned it into an insult. How she had stopped herself from
clawing the other woman's eyes out she would never know.
The touch of his lips on hers chased the shadows
away.
"All mine."
