Guest Interview and GIVEAWAY with Elizabeth Morgan

Please help me give a warm welcome to the lovely Elizabeth Morgan, who has agreed to answer my nosy questions today!

Come in, take a seat, make yourself at home.

Hello! My name is Elizabeth Morgan and I shall be your entertainment  host for the day. J

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Sure. Well, I write under the pen name Elizabeth Morgan, although Elizabeth is actually my second name. J I have been a published author for a year now. It’s gone by so quickly, it’s crazy. I come from Manchester in the United Kingdom, but I moved to Cheshire two years ago. I grew up wanting to be an actress, and I studied Musical Theatre in college. I have always enjoyed writing ever since I was a child. I started to write scripts in college and then turned my attention to books.
And here I am! J

What made you write ‘this’ story?

Cranberry Blood is actually the first story I wrote, but the version that has been published is the second I wrote. After suggestions off my beta readers I ripped the original version to shreds.
Honestly, I love anything paranormal and as the saying goes, “write what you love and know.” So when I decided I wanted to sit down and see if I could write a book, I decided I wanted it to be about Vampires and Werewolves. I was under the impression I wouldn’t be able to write something completely new or fresh considering how many stories there actually are about this two particular species, so I actually set out to, well, kinda laugh at myself. That no doubt sounds terrible, but I was new and I wasn’t sure if I could write a book let alone a decent one.
I knew I wanted my heroine to have a really inconvenient problem for her life style. I wanted an odd hero, not perfect, or a gentleman, or an alpha; someone you could relax with. I wanted a crazy – almost unbelievable - story plot. I wanted proper horror werewolves and scary vampires. I wanted blood, sex, and violence mixed with sarcasm, irony, and tension.
And I think I may have pulled it off, but I will let the readers decide. J

Tell us about your cover.

Well, the first thing you notice about the cover is that it is dark. The series in general is on the darker side, and it is sarcastic and ironic. I personally feel it has very dark humour in it, but again, I will let the readers decided if that is the case. J
The wolf on the cover is to indicate that this book is a shifter/werewolf story. The moon would also be another indication to that. I personally find that there is something very beautiful and magical about the moon and it is, in a sense, a symbol to all things supernatural/paranormal.
The female and male models representing the hero and heroine are perfect. I think Fiona Jayde – the cover artist – nailed them on the head by picking these two models.
Heather is a Vampire Slayer. She fights to survive. She isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty or receive a few wounds in the process. Basically, she doesn’t take shit off anyone whether they’re a vampire, werewolf, human, or anything in between.
Brendan is a Werewolf. The Pack fourth, so he is a dominant wolf, but unlike Owen – the hero of She-Wolf – who is an alpha male, Brendan is more of a beta male. He knows Heather can handle herself, so he doesn’t try to sweep in and save her. He just gives her a hand when, and if, she needs it. He is moody at times and he has a few scars – emotional and physical – so he is rather closed in a lot of ways.

Describe a typical day’s writing for us.

On a bad day, no writing will get done. I know, naughty, but I don’t like to push my ideas. I beat myself up when I don’t do any writing, which, naturally, doesn’t help. So if I have an off day, I don’t push it, because hopefully it will just be a day and not longer.
On a good day, I can just sit at my computer and end up writing for seven hours straight. Or I may be able to write 3-5k in one day, but it doesn’t always happen. I am honestly happy if I manage to get 1k a day written. A lower goal is less pressure and I can feel proud if I beat it. It really depends on the project and how consumed I am with it, not to mention what else I have on my plate at that point in time.

What inspires you?

Music. Pictures. Sometimes I have interesting dreams, or I will have – or overhear – an interesting conversation. Something will jump out at me and give me an idea. Or a word on an advertisement will catch my attention and I will start thinking.

If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

An actress; I wanted to act since the age of four. I studied drama in school and went to an amateur dramatics group. I studied Musical Theatre in college; I got to play Marty in Grease and a singing frog in an opera we did. Oh yeah, I’m multi talented like that; takes a certain type of crazy to play a frog. ;-P
I loved performing. I probably still would if I got in to the habit. I liked entertaining people. Sometimes when I watch a musical or see a really good film I get nostalgic. Ha.

Do your characters ever surprise you?

Yes, and I would go in to detail, but I don’t want to give spoilers away for future books. Let’s just say, since I am more of a panster then a planner, the story – especially in the sense of a series – comes to me in stages. I recently met a new character who will be in The Blood Series in either the next book or the one following and I was just like, “Oh, damn. Okay, I didn’t see that coming.”
I like that they surprise me, though, because hopefully it mean they will surprise the readers, and in a good way. J

What could you not do without when you’re writing?

I don’t really have a particular item I need when writing. A good cuppa helps, though. J

What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?

Believe in yourself. Believe in your ideas. Believe in your work. Never give up. Anyone who says “no,” well, it’s their loss.

Where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

I honestly have no idea. Hopefully I am still writing, because that would be awesome, but who knows what is lurking round the corner? Hopefully, fate has something good waiting for me. *Fingers crossed*

Do you have a favourite quote?

I have loads, but four of my favourites are:
“I looked at you and fell in love and you smiled because you knew.” – William Shakespeare
“Gum helps me think.”
“Sweetie, you’re wasting your gum.” – Nathan Lane, in the movie The Birdcage
*Laughs*
“What’s so funny?”
“Sometimes I just think funny thing.” – Dudley Moore, in the movie Arthur

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?

Yeah, I sometimes have periods of time where I can get stuck with a story. So, I have to put it to one side and look at something else. I find it’s best to give yourself some time and if the story doesn’t unfold naturally then you need to sit down and make yourself figure it out. It’s annoying, but unfortunately it happens sometimes.

What other books can your readers look forward to?

On August 6th my sweet contemporary romance “Stepping Stones” is being released with Noble Romance Publishing. This is the first sweet romance I have written, I won’t say it will be my last, because I honestly don’t know. It is practically innocent compared to my other stories. I actually dreamt it and liked it so much that I had to write it.
Stepping Stones Blurb:
There's nothing like a wedding to bring the family together . . . .
And if it wasn't her baby sister’s wedding, Margaret West, wouldn't be returning home at all.
Why else would she go back after six years knowing full well that she had people to face, and explanations to give?
If her parent’s interrogation wasn't bad enough, the fact that she has to be civil to her foster brother, Adrian, is. Best friends since childhood, they haven't spoken since he went to America . . . . The day before Margaret was supposed to be getting married. And to make matters worse, her ex-fiancĂ©e, William, is the Reverend who will be conducting her sister’s wedding ceremony!
All want an answer from her, and they aren't taking no as one of them. Why did she run in the first place? Why has she been so angry with, Adrian? Why didn't she marry, William?
Margaret isn't even sure she knows the real reasons any more.
Available from Noble Romance Publishing on August 6th 2012.

I recently had a Young Adult Futuristic Romance novel accepted. I wrote this book with a friend of mine. I don’t have a blurb or a release date for it yet, but more news when I do.
I am currently working on a erotic paranormal short story, which I hope to have done in the next week or so. I then plan to start writing the second book in The Blood Series, which has yet got a title. And then after that I will be working on the second book in my Overseers Series: The Keeper.
Needless to say I am keeping busy, so watch this space. J

And finally can you share an excerpt with us?

I’d love too!  J
(Taken from Chapter One)
The sudden sound of rustling paper snapped me from my thoughts. I tensed, the awareness crackling sharply beneath the surface of my skin.
Someone is in my house.
I walked through the open living room door. A new scent invaded my nostrils. Tangy, manufactured, smelled like expensive cologne. An unfamiliar, black, travel bag sat tucked away between the red leather sofa and TV stand. The papers rustled again. I stepped lightly toward the archway that lead into the dining room, my sword still gripped comfortably in my right hand.
"Your breakfast is getting cold, Heather. I suggest you stop trying to sneak in here and just come in so that we can get this over and done with," said the deep male voice in my kitchen.
What the hell is going on? Who is he? Why is he in my house? How does he know my name? And why the hell has he cooked me breakfast?
I took a deep breath, then exhaled. I slowly walked through the archway into the empty dining room and turned my head to the left to see a strange man seated at my kitchen breakfast bar. He sat casually, in jeans and a forest green T-shirt that clung to his broad, sculptured back and defined biceps. The sun flooded into the kitchen through the side window and glinted off his copper-blond hair, which brushed his shoulders.
"Are you going to come in to the room or stand there drooling all day?" He turned a page of his newspaper.
I inhaled again; nothing new amongst the scent of dog, pine, bacon, and coffee, which meant he wasn't a Vampire. I knew because leeches smelled like mouldy, wet earth; not an overpowering smell, but hidden underneath the products they wore. A huge part of me felt relieved he wasn't a Vamp. A Vampire couldn’t get in here, anyway. They could only come in with a personal invite, and since they all wanted me dead . . . . No matter what state I'd been in last night, I wouldn't have invited one in. So, who the hell is this guy?
I walked toward him, my sword glinting in the sunlight as I gripped the hilt firmly in both hands.
"Who the hell are you, and what are you doing in my house?" I stopped three feet behind him.
"I'm not going to hurt you."
"Wrong answer." I pressed the tip of my sword into the firm space between his shoulder blades. "I said who the hell are you and what—"
"Killing me isn't going to help." He turned another page of his paper.
"I disagree. I think killing the stranger who broke into my house is a very good idea."
"I did not break in," he replied calmly. "My name is Brendan and I'm actually here to help you."
I snorted. "Like I believe that."
"It's the truth. Besides, if I really wanted to hurt you, I would have. I also wouldn't have left your weapons with you."
"Well, you're obviously an eejit."
He laughed. "You have serious trust issues."
"Trust issues? Says the complete stranger who broke into my house and—"
"I used your house keys. They were in your jacket pocket," he said. "And yes, trust issues, says the stranger. The stranger who promises he isn't here to hurt you."
"Just because you say you're not here to hurt me doesn't mean it's the truth."
"True. But why go to the trouble of killing you when I could have left you lying in the car park the other night and let the seven greedy leeches looking for you find you and bleed you dry."

Release day and GIVEAWAY with Raven McAllan

The delightful Raven and me have swapped blogs today, cause as luck would have it, it's release day for both of us!

*joins hands with Raven and dances like a loon*

So the formidable Stella Giovanni is visiting Raven's blog here.

And we are very lucky to have Raven's latest hero Sael with us. Who knew devils could be so sexy? Take it away, Sael.

******

Now why would you want to know more about your devils? Were you never told about them when you were a babe in arms? Never learned just how important they were?
Ahh humans are terrible. Because without us… Well, not to put a finer point on it, you would be screwed. And not in a good way. Not in a get stuck in and fuck me way. Oh no not like that. In a mad, bad, and sucky shit sort of way.
You all need to find your devil within. (Or, oh dear, your inner devil)
My name is Sael and I belong to Livvy. But I could belong to each and every one of you, if you chose to comment. Livvy says okay, she will share. Temporarily. (and well, she is hard, shit scary and soft and well, okay I love her to bits.)
She told me to warm you. Say to tell you to find who is inside you. See if you want to release them or squash them good and proper.
But whichever, beware. Beware and be ready. Because whoever or whatever they will be waiting!
And now she's told me to show you just what she means… Ahhh I love my Livvy….

For the last year she'd woken up at least once a night like this, wet, clit thrumming, demanding attention and making her reach for her purple friend.
The damn vibrator was overworked, she thought gloomily, as she switched it on and began to play. All she wanted was to know was why she woke night after night in this state, sweating, grasping for something, almost with the knowledge of... of what?
It took mere seconds for her to come, sobbing and throbbing she thought as she wiped her tears. This seems to be my state at the moment. Why can't I remember?
She looked down at her chest and stomach. Even more freckles—well that's what she called them—had appeared. Every time. Every time she had the dream, she'd look and see.
I'll soon have the map of Australia on me in freckles, she thought as she got out of bed and went into the bathroom to shower and wash Freddie as she called her purple friend.
'Not Australia Livvy. Saffaul, my home. I'm waiting.'
Shit now I'm having conversations with my mind. In a different voice. Livvy, you need a holiday. Or sex. Wide-awake and participating sex. With a hot bod, not a hot rod!
'Hey Liv, I'm both. Are you ready for this yet? I've been waiting for you.'
She really was going to have to stop eating cheese before she went to bed. Maybe start drinking cocoa instead! The thought made her feel sick.
'Hell no. You feel like that because it's me you want to eat and drink. Eat my cock, drink my cum, milk me and make me shout. You do that every time my love. You just need to believe it. Then we can be together in our reality. You know you want me;
your body shows me. In the recess of your soul, you think of me. Look, see my marks and believe Livvy. You need to believe. Or pay the price.'
"Oh shit. Stop this. Get out of my head. Argh stop this, right now. Hell now I'm talking out loud to myself." Screwy. Seriously screwed. What next? Asking where Saffaul is? Or who owns that deep, dark and demonic voice I'm answering? Fuck. Grow up Liv. Get up, get out, and get a life.

Poor Livvy, and that was just the beginning. I pushed her, shoved her and by god made her face up to everything.
It wasn't just her life…It was mine!

So what do you think?

Livvy and Raven have decided one lucky commenter will find out just what happens if they comment…

An Interview with Gray Reynard from Taken Identity by Raven McAllan

Today I bring you an interview with Gray Reynard, who readers will meet in Raven McAllan's latest tale Taken Identity.

Here's the BLURB:

What do you do when a drop dead gorgeous man turns up on your doorstep, demanding his wife? Who, it seems has stolen your identity? Find out why of course.
When Gray Reynard turns up on Jules' doorstep expecting to find his estranged wife and finds her instead both are surprised. Especially as the air between them sizzles. But before they can do anything about that sizzle they need to find out what is going on. Or so they think.
But life doesn't always pan out as you want, and Jules and Gray have to decide whether to work together or walk away from what they are feeling.

Taken Identity releases today through Noble Romance

***

On to the interview.

Wow, I knew he was handsome, but looking at him in person is something else entirely...

I shift on my chair, as Gray's full stare settles on me. Damn he is downright gorgeous and looks good enough to eat. Raven always snags the best heroes.

Concentrate, girl! Ask your questions! Stop drooling!

D. Gray, do you mind if I call you Gray?

*he smiles and I forget what I was about to say for a minute*

Oh my!

G Not at all, hello Doris

D. I understand you lost your wife at the beginning of the book?

G. (His Eyes narrow) More like she lost me… on purpose.

D. What went through your mind, when you first saw Jules and realized that she wasn't your errand wife?

G. Damn I wish she was.

D. Was there ever a point where you thought you wouldn't solve the mystery?

G. Not really, but it was bloody frustrating, in more ways than one at times. Jules is everything I ever want in a woman— present company excepted— and she was so snippy with me. Rightly so, I may add. I was somewhat, well her expression was 'up myself'.

D. What do you like most about Jules?

G. What don't I like? She's feisty, independent and damned sexy. Gives as good as she gets—and more.

(I silently swoon.)

D. Are you a man easily crossed?

G. Not at all, I wouldn't stay in business long if I was.

(He leans forward.)

That's why this whole business threw me. I was taken for a ride and was not at all happy.

D. Do you bear grudges?

G. YES.

D. Just yes?

G. Just yes. I'm a firm believer on revenge is a dish better eaten cold. Though I do believe I've mellowed since I met Jules. She says life is to short to hold grudges, I guess she's right but…

*nods*

(I sure wouldn't like to cross him in a bad way)

D.  What's your favourite …err…position?

G. (WEG)  Ask Jules.

There's a knock on the door and Jules pops her head round.

J. Did I hear my name? Hi I'm Jules.

 (shakes hands)

Ask me what?

D. Oops, er Your favorite position.

J. (She laughs.)  Well I quite like it when…

G. Don’t you dare.

They both laugh

(I clear my throat.)

D. What does your future hold?

G. Well if you read the end of our story, you'll find out.

D. Do you think you'll ever mislay Jules?

G. No chance, she's er almost chained to me.

 (There's that WEG again)

D. Before I let you get back to Jules, can you solve one mystery? What exactly do you do for a living?

G. Thank you for coming and goodbye.

J. Gray, play nice.

(The look he gives her could set the room on fire, smoldering is an understatement)

G. I always play nice.

(Jules goes the color of her hair, which is red by the way)

D. (guess that means he's not going to tell me) Anything else you'd like to add Gray?

G. Remember, it's not always wise to delve too deeply into things that don't concern you.  It can be dangerous, ask my ex wife. And non of it was her fault. Now, we've been lucky all of us, but it could have all turned out so differently.

D. Thank you so much for your time. It's been a pleasure interviewing you!

G. It was my pleasure, you're lovely to talk with. Now I'd better go and help Jules, she's got a deadline, so I'm holding the fort, so to speak.

(Kisses her on both cheeks)

*sighs to herself and watches that to die for butt walking away*

So there, you have it. Gray Reynard, businessman extraordinaire. Now go read the book and see exactly what Jules and he get up to. That woman has all the luck!

*grin*

I leave you with an excerpt

Excerpt:-

"Bedroom? Or, on the other hand, are you happy if I now start taking your clothes off, and make love to you on the rug? Because frankly, I’m holding on by a thread here, and it’s a very fine thread, and threatening to snap at any time." He stopped speaking suddenly. "Bloody hell, Jules, protection. Not expecting to need any, I only have one condom in my wallet. And that's been there so long, it's probably perished. Is there a chemist near here? Or a pub with a helpful machine in the loo? Or even a service station?"
Jules couldn’t help it. She giggled. That made her body move against his. The look of anguish on his face should not really make her chuckle, but knowing just how she could erase it, had her in stitches.
"Well the motorway services are only about 30 miles away," She gasped, in between laughs." And the co-op stays open until ten. But no need. I was a Girl Guide and I’m always prepared."
The kiss he gave her was heartfelt. And heart stopping. Jules returned it, felt their tongues meet and mesh, felt his hand following the contour of her body, mapping it for future use.
"Where?" He asked raggedly.
"Bedroom, in drawer. Bathroom, in cabinet, kitchen, probably."
"Bedroom then, now. Please!" he moved both hands to her waist and helped her to stand. Without his support, Jules knew she'd fall. Her legs felt as if they belonged to someone else.
"Which way?" Gray’s voice was clipped, his tone urgent. As he followed her towards the door, she felt his erection, hard against her bottom. It was all she could do, not to turn round, take the initiative, and have him on the floor. Only the thought of not having a condom handy stopped her.
"Up the stairs, second left." Although she moved in the general direction of the stairs, she couldn’t resist moving backwards, just a bit, into his body, so his erection pressed more firmly against her body. It felt good!
"Cruel," He responded, as his body tightened even more. His arms went around her, anchoring her against him, as walking steadily stair wards; he brushed his hands gently over her breasts, as his mouth explored that sensitive area around the nape of her neck.
Right, Jules thought as coherently as she could. They needed to move. She had no intention of their first time together taking place on the stairs. Later maybe, but not this time.

Guest blog - Natalie Baum

Please welcome Natalie Baum to my blog today.  Make yourself at home Natalie :-)

Hey Everybody,
Natalie Baum here…I know, I know, Natalie who? Give me one second and I'll explain that and so much more! First things first…big thanks to Doris for hosting me on her site. I really appreciate it! I hope you receive ten-fold gratification in return for your helpful generosity. Now onto business…
Although I'm not new to writing I am new to writing romance and erotica stories. My latest title, Chicago Adventure, is the first book in the Callie Mallory series, was released on December 22,2011 and is available at Noble Romance Publishing.
Enough with the nuts and bolts of the situation though…boring…I want to take a few minutes and introduce myself. I like to think I have a fun, interesting life, even if only when seeing the world through my characters' eyes. Thankfully, my characters scream pretty loudly making it impossible for me to avoid their desires and demands.
Not very nice, the way you're talking about me like I’m not here!
Case in point, my spirited, opinionated, adventurous current leading lady, Callie Mallory.
A little better…but hello! You forgot beautiful, sexy and savvy-smart!
Savvy-smart? I don't even know what that is.
Exactly, but I do.
Did I forget to mention that Chef Mallory is also mouthy, excessively independent and a bit neurotic?
If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black? You wrote me.
Indeed I did, and with that in mind I will now once again take charge of this interview.
I have to take my ham out of the oven, anyway.
Perfect timing, Chef Mallory. But before you go why don't you tell our readers what type of glaze you used on your holiday ham?
I love glaze! It's the perfect texture to rub all over your partner's body. Start by instructing your lover to take off his shirt and roll over on his stomach. Use your fingertips to gently massage the glaze into his shoulders and then lean forward, your lace-covered breasts hovering inches above his bare skin, and take your time licking him clean inch by inch.
Chef Mallory! How does all that sex have anything to do with the recipe?
Clearly, your kitchen isn't half as hot as mine, Ms. Baum, if you have to ask that.
Well, one of us has to work to keep the heater running in our apartment in the winter.
I create my own heat.
Yes, I know, all those sexy suitors you meet on your travel adventures. They all want you and can't control themselves when around you. Can we just move on to the ingredients, please?
As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, you only need a few ingredients to make a delicious ham glaze.
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
And once you return from the market with your edible goodies, just do this:
** Whisk together the apple butter, orange juice, dried onion flakes, and Worcestershire sauce in a small saucepan.
One of my favorite things about this recipe is that after you've turned your stovetop burner to low, the sauce needs to simmer until it thickens. This wait period offers the perfect chance to baste another part of your lover's body with left-over apple butter and suck it off—
Inch by inch…yes, I think we've got it Chef Mallory. Thanks for the unsolicited tip! Off you go.
So bossy…
No! You just don't listen unless I completely cut you off.
Bossy, bossy, bossy…
Listen up readers: DO NOT listen to Chef Callie Mallory. Natalie Baum is not bossy!!!
And you talk about yourself. Who talks about herself in third person?
If you want to hear more from this sassy vixen, visit my fucking website, www.nataliebaum.com, or go to Noble Romance and check out Callie Mallory Chicago Adventure.
Ooohhh! You said fuck, maybe we're making progress, after all?
Is that your sauce burning, Chef Mallory? I think I see it bubbling.
What? No. Burnt glaze doesn't coat cock properly.
Thanks again, Doris—you totally rock! "Happy New Year" to you and all your readers! I hope I get the opportunity to get to know each and every one of you more personally in 2012.
Hugs and Kisses,
Natalie (And Callie!!)

*giggles*

It was a blast to have you both here. Do come again, Natalie and I may have to try out that glaze, you know...

It's back :-)

Todays twelve come from my Erotic Romance Scandinavian Scandal

Blurb:
Sven Larsson, international movie star, is out to repair his scandalous reputation. The last thing he needs is for an enticing bundle of curves to fall into his arms. However, the instant sexual chemistry he has with Sylvia is hard to ignore...

Sylvia, young widowed mum of three, knows Sven is everything she doesn't need in a man. Can she risk giving into temptation?

With the Paparazzi breathing down their necks and both of them scarred emotionally by their past demons, will they manage to heal each other...

Available from Noble Romance

My twelve:

This was Sven, for pity's sake; she knew she could trust him. He had only suggested handcuffs, not a goddamned threesome. People did this all the time. But the other frightened stiff part of her could only remember another man demanding she give up all control, and she couldn't help the shudder going down her spine.
Get a grip girl, and just breathe, he is not Richard.
Forcing her breathing to slow down, she turned to find him leaning against the closed door watching her, the heat in his steady gaze ensuring low burning arousal won over the fear churning her stomach.
"Did I spook you that much?"
"No . . . I . . . I . . . of course not."
"Liar."
With the prowl of a predator with his prey in sight he pushed himself away from the door, covering the distance between them with two long strides. Framing her head in his hands, his breath fanning across her cheeks, his mouth touched hers, his tongue trailing along the contours of her bottom lip.
"Ă–ppna för mig vackra."

You can find other participating Authors here, so do go and check out their twelve and like the Facebook page, if you're on there.

Have a fabulous weekend folks xx

Guest Interview - Desi Moon

I am delighted to have the lovely Desi Moon on my blog today.

*pulls up a chair for Desi*

Lovely to have you here.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

In a nutshell (or a nuthouse, some days they are interchangeable) I am an author, dog trainer, vet tech student, wife and mother. My family (Husband, two kids, three cats and a dog) and I reside in Boulder, CO. I have been telling stories since I was old enough to talk.
My first story was penned at the age of seven. It was set in the old west, (I was very much into Little House on the Prairie at the time.) My parents were appalled by my story. Rebellion struck at an early age, this encouraged me to continue pushing the envelope.

Oooh I loved Little House on the Prairie, when I was little!

What made you write ‘this’ story?

Summerland came out of the very mundane task of shopping. It occurred to me while I was standing in line at the grocery store, scanning the tabloid headlines, checking off my mental “to-do” list, I noticed a running theme among the covers. They all had the same celebrity in varying stages of mental decline.
As it often does, my stories start with a character “talking” to me. Rhiann began telling me about her troubles being a paparazzi magnet.

Describe a typical day’s writing for us

My typical day starts around 5 a.m., I check/answer my email, write my blog posts, make my networking rounds. When my daughter goes off to preschool, is when I get a bulk of my writing done. Oh gosh, my day sounds boring! Will it help if I mention that I am currently writing another romantic comedy, “A Community of Errors”?

Not boring at all :-)

What inspires you?

Everything! I can find inspiration in a flower, in the mountains, scanning the headlines (as with Summerland), in a phone conversation (Which is what started me writing my next novel Accidental Intent) or a bag of random objects (My Humiliating Valentine was written because I was handed a bag and told to use the items in a short story)

If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

When I was in school, no one ever mentioned to me that I could write full time. It never dawned on me that people did that, my parents are very down to earth and believe in “Steady” employment. My goal was to be a veterinarian.

Do your characters ever surprise you?

LoL Every time I sit down to write, someone pops off with something I didn’t have planned. My biggest surprise was in Summerland. “Aunt” Genie showed up three chapters early and announced a pool party that never was part of the story. The result was funny, and much better than what I had originally thought up, so I kept it in, but also kept a close eye on her as well. She proved to be problematic, in a good way.

Ah I love it when characters do that.

What could not do without when you’re writing?

I am not an overly superstitious woman, but I do have a few “quirks”. One of them is my writing mug. Thankfully everyone in this house respects the mug, and won’t touch it. It is large, black and has the word Redrum written across it in red drippy letters. It sits next to me every time I sit down to write.

What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?

Gosh, I am the last person to give words of wisdom, seeing as I am still a bit of a newbie myself, but I would have to say- be proud of your accomplishments. So many people talk about writing a book, but few actually achieve their goal.

Indeed that is so true.

Where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

In ten years time I will own a used bookstore, be writing full time and running my own dog rescue. That is my current objective- It will be interesting to see where life takes me.

Do you have a favourite quote?

Several! I often come back to quotes from Maya Angelou, George Carlin, Douglas Adams and Mark Twain.

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?

One of the joys of being a writer is the dreaded black hole. When it hits, I have to walk away and do something mindless like sewing or baking. More often than not it gives me a chance to clear my head and look at my dilemma with a fresh set of eyes.

What other books can your readers look forward to?

Rebel Ink Press will be releasing two stories of mine in 2012.
A short, “My Humiliating Valentine” will be part of the Love Bites V-Day Anthology. It is a humorous romantic story about a blind date that went horribly wrong.
My second full-length novel Accidental Intent is slated for a spring release. A romantic murder mystery has (quite literally) gone to the dogs.

And finally can you share an excerpt with us?

Summerland Chapter One-- Part Two (Part one can be found on my blog on the Summerland page)

The food arrived. The women took it outside, where they settled in on the back deck by the pool. Music pumped through hidden speakers. "So, you ready?" Keeley asked, as she dug into her salad.
"Not by a long shot." Rhiann grabbed a BBQ beef rib; she savored the sweet, savory sauce before continuing. "I have an entire staff to hire, model casting, locations, headquarters—" Her stomach clenched. "Oh my god, what made me think I could do a whole show?"
Keeley waved her fork. "The space below my office is available. Since I own the building, I think I can get you a sweet deal."
"Thanks, Keeley." Rhiann breathed a small sigh of relief.
"Call it tit for tat, since you own this palatial manor."
"Duplex." Rhiann corrected.
"And let me live here rent free."
"You redecorated the other side. Who in their right mind would want to live in a purple paradise?"
"That was the idea." Her lavender eyes sparkled.
The teasing made Rhiann feel a bit better about jumping into her new venture. "Besides, I like having my family nearby; with you next door, Aunt Genie and Uncle Eddie over in the guest house, I am never lonely."
Keeley slowly wiped her mouth. "When do you plan on getting out and socializing?"
Rhiann knew this was coming. Keeley had been too quiet when it came to her social circle. "I socialize." She concentrated on her food, avoiding Keeley's intense gaze. "I get out."
"When? When do you get out?"
"I go grocery shopping."
"That's a lie. Genie does all the cooking," Keeley said.
"I . . . I . . . ." Rhiann struggled to remember. "I went to dinner with you and Camp the other night, and the guy you brought—"
"Chase, yeah." Keeley waggled her pinky finger. "I was a bit disappointed. Thank God I had my vibrator handy."
Rhiann choked on a french fry. "Your what? Didn't he notice?"
Keeley shrugged. "Sadly, no." The amused expression passed across her face quickly. "Back to what I was saying, you need to get out. Socialize. You cannot rely on us forever. It is time you learned to play well with others."
"Look," Rhiann said. "This venture will get me out and meeting new people, so could you please back off?" The music coming through the speakers silenced the conversation. "Oh my God, would you listen to that?" Rhiann paused as the romantic, edgy ballad played. "This is what I want for the runway show."
"Which one is it?"
She quickly ran to the player, grabbed the CD case, then settled back into her chair. "Quantum Solace." She closed her eyes as she pictured the entire show; some of her tension eased.
"Quantum Solace?" Keeley clicked her nails on the CD case and nodded. "Cover art, I approve. When are you going to audition them?"
Rhiann's head swiveled from side to side in time to the music. "No audition, this is who I want."
"Rhi?" Keeley sat up straight. "You can't—"
Her eyes opened slowly as if the world finally made sense. "I can and I am. It is good to know I still have some instincts left, and I am going to trust my gut on this one."

Great stuff. Thanks so much for letting me quiz you today Desi.
