“Dad,
we’ve got to go. They’re ready for her now.”
Harry
turned round slowly, and his daughter’s face fell when she saw what he clutched
in his hands.
“I
can’t,” he said. “I can’t do this.”
Giselle
gently tugged the picture out of his gnarled hands, and smiled down at it.
“You
can, Dad. You have to. Besides, she’ll always be with us in here.” She put her
hand over his heart, and smiled.
It
was her mother’s smile, and Harry shook his head, as his grief hit him anew.
“I
can’t live without her,” he said.
“Yes,
you must.”

ReplyDeleteSniffling here......been there with my Dad and you captured the emotions beautifully. xx
ReplyDeletePowerful piece of writing in such a short amount of words
ReplyDeleteAmazing! What's happening to Giselle? Who is ready for her? Why does the Dad have to go? A thousand questions remain from this excellently written flasher. I love it
ReplyDeleteHeart stopping and full of emotion. Beautiful flash. I hope her father can go on. His daughter needs him now. I often wonder what happened to her mother and what the picture has to do with her loss. Great flash!!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written. Ignites myriad questions. Are they going to her funeral, thus the flowers and the object held in his hand? Also wonder what happened to her.
ReplyDeleteWow, a truly heart-hitting piece. Wow!
