#TantalizingTuesdays - Forever

Happy Tuesday, folks. I'm back teasing this week. I've had this picture earmarked for some time, and I finally found the right words.

A little bit sad, but also hopeful, I think. Enjoy, I hope.

Erin took a deep breath and tried to fix a smile on her face for the middle aged woman behind the desk.
“Can I help you, Miss?” she asked, and Erin swallowed past the lump in her throat.
“Yes, I—“
“I’ve got this, Jean.” The deep male voice seemed out of place in this retirement home, and Erin’s breath stalled in her throat when she turned round and saw him. Drop dead gorgeous did not do this guy justice. Messy brown hair tumbled over eyes so blue they reminded her of the deepest ocean. They crinkled up at the corner and drew her under their spell, as he held his hand out for her to shake.
“You must be Erin. They spoke of you often. It’s great to meet you, even if the circumstances are far from ideal. I’m so very sorry.”
His long fingers closed over hers, and somehow the usual platitude she’d heard too many times over the last week sounded sincere when it came from him.
He bent down to hand her a box and tears filled her eyes at the picture on the top.
“Your grandparents made everyone believe in the forever kind of love.”

#TantalizingTuesdays - Forever

Another Tuesday, and another teaser. I feel I ought to warn you though, you will most definitely need tissues. I welled up writing it.

He was slipping away slowly. Held close to her heart, his hold on her loosened. How could she let him go? He was her love, her life, her best friend. The man she'd loved for the last fifty-four years.
His breathing was raspy, as it skimmed across her neck, and she drew him in closer. She had to strain to hear the whispered words.
"I love you Evie, always. Thank you, my beautiful girl."
Tears slipped from her eyes, and mingled with his, and she felt him smile against her skin. It made her heart flutter in remembrance of happier times. His lips brushed her ear once, twice and she sighed and pulled him closer.
"I'll miss you, my love. Rest, now. Sleep. I'll see you soon."
With one last shuddery exhale he breathed his last, safe in her arms, where he wanted to be. His once so strong body, now frail and riddled with pain, relaxed, and she allowed the tears to fall through her smile.
Already her limbs felt heavier, her breathing slowed and her eyes fluttered closed. He would tell her off on the other side. But she couldn't let him go alone.
"Forgive me, my love."

#TantalizingTuesdays - Forever

Another Tuesday - another flash.

Enjoy Forever...

The water was colder, much colder than it had been that day. Their movements were stiffer, and the music only played in their heads, but none of that mattered. They were here on their beach, all these years later.
Ethel would not have thought it possible that she could be happier, now, thirty years later, than she had been on their wedding day. She smiled into Henry's eyes, and even though he could not see her anymore, he smiled back. The connection they shared had only become stronger through the years.
He stumbled and she caught him. Concern for the man she loved made tears well up in her eyes.
"Don't cry, my darling. I'm still here."
His once so strong voice was a mere whisper across the background of the waves rolling over their feet, yet his inner strength remained. He pulled her close, his hot breath feathering over the spot under her ear that always turned her insides to mush.
"Guide me home, my love. There is something else we have to do."
He kissed her tears off her face, and she felt the shudder go through him, as he tried to hide his pain.

"I love you."
