Flash Fiction Friday - The Trade #FFF

Happy Valentine's Day, folks. I didn't mean to, but it seems today somehow seeped into my flash. You might need some tissues....

Alexia clutched the life line the mirror offered. Damn it, this was supposed to work. Her father's last words echoed through her tired brain.
"Never trust the sea witch."
She blinked back tears and through the haze it happened. Her skin burned as the tattoos appeared on her back and her legs fused together and formed the tail she needed. Lungs burning with the need for oxygen she would only find in the sea, she saw the struggling ship in the distance.
The ship her love would die on if she didn't manage to get there.

Her life for his.

Friday Flashers have 100 words to tell a story from the provided picture prompt. Do check out the other flashers. You won't be disappointed. :-)
Till next week, folks.

  1. Oh, Doris, what a sad and unexpected twist. Yes, dying for love is a long and lonely decision men and women have been making for centuries, and it never gets any easier. As usual, you have pulled allot of emotion into just a few dramatic and descriptive words pulled together artfully to draw the reader into you web of tears. Loved it. xo
