“Careful,
you’ll slip, Janus.”
Estelle
wasn’t sure why she bothered giving that warning. Their unruly cub never
listened in his tiger form, and his curiosity knew no bounds.
“Stop
fussing. It’s all part of the process. Ink and I did far worse at this age.”
Estelle
bit back the retort bubbling on her tongue. The sassy comeback wouldn’t help,
and Nathan looked tired today. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and
ignoring the splashes behind her, Estelle sunk to her feet and nuzzled into her
Master’s thigh instead.
Nathan
wrapped his hand in her hair and his tiger’s deep purr trembled through her.
Peace washed over her like it always did, and she wished they could take this
further. It had been far too long since
they had managed to properly play, but Janus took up every one of their waking
hours, and quite often the night times too.
She
would never forget the first night he had shifted and pounced on their bed.
Waking up to find your adorable toddler was now a tiger cub took some getting
used to.
A
gold fish landed in front of them, and Nathan laughed as Janus pounced.
“That’s
my boy.”

ReplyDeleteThanks, Naomi :-)
DeleteAgain, you write prose with a paintbrush..."bit back the retort bubbling on her tongue.....his hand in her hair and his tiger’s deep purr trembled through her". I see this scene so clearly and Budda jumping on the foot of your bed, transforming mid-air before he lands. Naomi nailed it, you are full of surprises, all of which so delightfully entertain. Splendid!!
ReplyDeleteAww, thank you, Muffy :-)
DeleteWhat a lovely family scene. I like the curiosity of the cub juxtaposed with the concern of the parents. And like all parents, who doesn't need a little time to themselves!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Angelica :-)
