#Guestinterview with @CaseyMoss_ #newrelease Open World @evernightpub

I have the lovely Casey in my hot seat today, so settle in to get to know her, as she tells us about her newest release

****

Q. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Currently a resident of the hot, high desert in the southwest, I knew I wanted to write at a young age, as early as I learned to read, cooking up stories to entertain myself in the rural area I had lived in. But I took a roundabout way to settle down as a fiction writer, having worked in the corporate and real estate realms writing newspaper articles, press releases, corporate newsletters, etc. Now that I’m settled in the desert, I’ve returned to my first love: creative writing. When I’m not working at my computer cooking up another tale, I can be found hanging out with my husband and cat, reading a book, chillin’ in front of the TV, or working on a craft project. I’ve also been known to play WOW and other computer games.
I received “the calling” to be a writer in the sixth grade, though I had been writing earlier than that and always had a sense that’s what I’d do when I grew up. Back in middle school, I remember getting an A on an English project and that’s when my inner voice/sixth sense said I would definitely write for a living.
I’ve been studying the craft of writing since my early teens. It started with working on the school newspaper in middle school to creative writing classes and Teens Art Festivals in high school. I received my BA in Communications, Information and Library Studies from Rutgers College with a strong concentration in English Lit/Writing and Interpersonal Communications/PR. Studying under the mentorship of Terri Valentine (author of 'Sands of Time,' a Zebra Historical Romance), I honed my novel writing skills. Now I find myself taking the occasional online class and devouring all the writing how-to books I can get her hands on.

Q. What made you write ‘this’ story?

The world of C.O.V.E.N. (Clans of Vegas – Endless Night) first appeared in Evernight Publishing’s anthology Keyboards & Kink (available here: http://www.evernightpublishing.com/keyboards-and-kink/ & at other fine e-tailers) in Casey’s story, AFK.
In AFK, we saw a peek into I-D-8 Entertainment’s in-production MMORPG: Clans of Vegas – Endless Night, also known as C.O.V.E.N. when Beth and another gamer got sucked into the game for real.
Now, when it comes to Open World, it’s actually made up of parts from two novellas that had been previously published. Those stories were my very first published ones released in 2008 under my alter ego’s name. A few years ago, I received the rights back on them, and they sat in a file until this year. There’s been some major work done to revamp them from a sci-fi’ish plot to the computer gaming one present in the book today. I am so excited these stories, and more to come in the C.O.V.E.N. world, have found new life and a great new home with Evernight Publishing.

Q. Tell us about your cover.

Isn’t my cover awesome?! I love the coloring of the city and sky which represents how it looks during the day in the story. The women in the book come into their special powers and that’s symbolized by the weapon in her hand. Then of course since this is about a computer game, we have the power button symbol. :)

Q. Describe a typical day’s writing for us

First thing I normally do is check email, then I’ll check Facebook. Next I’ll get to my writing projects. When I’m working on a story, I’ll reread and do editing on the parts I haven’t edited yet to catch myself up. I’ll make the font a color other than black to keep track of what I’ve already gone through. Then I’ll write the new material. If I’m starting a new project, I do an information dump and outline as much of the story that’s in my head first thing. Then I work off the outline, fleshing out all the ideas and stuff as per above.  But then, when I'm really focused on a project, I tend to just plough through it and focus only on getting it done...staying up late writing, getting up early and getting back to the story, eating when I think I can get away from my ‘desk’ without ruining the flow... I say ‘desk’ because sometimes if it’s nice outside, I’ll grab my notebook and pen and either sit on my patio, or go to the pool, and write. The house and social life suffers, but I’m a slave to my art. :) Sometimes editing gets thrown in there or a blog post or two along with other promotional items, but that’s the life of a writer.

Q. What inspires you?

Music has been known to inspire stories for me. I’ll catch a line of lyric and it gets my mind going. Same with dialogue on television or between people in conversations I hear. News articles are known to get my creative juices going too. I get ideas from everywhere…conversations, news headlines, television, songs. On occasion I’ve been known to pull from my old careers and the people I’ve known, drawing out tidbits of personalities for characters, places for settings and information to assist with subject matter—for example, using the basis and background knowledge of energy work that I learned in the massage field for paranormal stories I’ve worked on. I love using the places I’ve lived in and visited as the settings. There was one story I wrote (it’s not available at the moment) where I used a situation I’d been in one night on a beach. Granted, I elaborated on the situation and made it much more intense than it had been, but the foundation was there.

Q. If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

I’ve worked as a massage therapist, real estate agent and as an office admin/executive assistant. Most of my choices in life have revolved around my goal of becoming a full-time fiction writer and being published. Writing is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid. It’s like breathing and eating. It’s intrinsic, a must do or I’ll go crazy type thing. I’m an author in my soul. But, if I had no choice and couldn’t be a writer, I’d probably fall back on what I’ve done in the past.

Q. Do your characters ever surprise you?

Yes. There was one part of a story where a character ended up sacrificing herself and died for the greater good. I hadn’t planned that in the least.

Q. What could not do without when you’re writing?

Water, internet (thesaurus & google) & some kind of background noise.

Q. What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?

Learn the craft, from grammar to story building and everything in between. Adhere to the rules for a while. Once you do that, then you’ll understand how and when to break the rules and really let your creativity thrive.  After learning the craft, start promoting yourself before the first story is picked up/published. And if you’re going the e-book route through e-book publishers, get two or three places under your belt right away. If you’re doing the independent route (or e-publisher even), perhaps finishing two or three books first before you send book one out to the world would be a good idea. This way you don’t have to rush in starting to build a back list and can space out the publications of the ones you already have done while you work on more. But on top of knowing about writing mechanics, learning about marketing and promotion and getting that going is just as important.

Q. Where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

Making an extremely good living from my writing. Hopefully I'll have a beach house for vacations by then too.

Q. Do you have a favourite quote?

This too shall pass.

Q. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?

Yeah, I do. When that happens, I go and focus on a non-writing related project to clear my mind and let my muse chew on the issue. More often than not, doing so helps to get rid of the block.

Q. What other books can your readers look forward to?
I’m working on the next book in the C.O.V.E.N. series. I have that book and three more in the works. I’m also hoping to revamp and re-publish an erotic horror series I have in my files.

Q. And finally can you share the blurb and excerpt with us?

Sure! Happy to! :)
In the story, Open World, some of the employees of I-D-8 have joined together for a LAN party to test the game. For definitions on the computer gaming term: open world, check out http://www.techopedia.com/definition/3952/sandbox-gaming).

~ Blurb ~
The world has broken out in wars. Las Vegas has been ravaged by chemical warfare and is now home to several clans and creatures.
Welcome to I-D-8 Entertainment’s newest game: Clans of Vegas—Endless Night.
Friends and family have gathered for a crunch time playtest of C.O.V.E.N.. When a horrible thunderstorm hits, everyone’s sucked into the game for real. In the MMORPG, Hope Collins is kidnapped by Buzz and forced to submit to his whims. Her boyfriend, Alden, has to delay his quest of defeating a clan’s prince to save her, but time and circumstance don’t seem to be on his side. Faith Collins is bombarded by strange dreams brought on by Buzz. Her boyfriend, Tavis, learns to dream walk, but can he help break the spell she’s under and save her before she’s lost to him?
C.O.V.E.N. is more than just a game. It’s a whole other world.

~ Excerpt ~

“I thought you might be interested in a hobby.” Buzz pointed at the yarn, which she put on the floor next to her. “The other items are to help you become the proper, submissive wife.”
“Speaking of being the proper wife. When are you going to give me some satisfaction as a husband should? Or do you have a problem in that department and can only get off on torturing helpless victims? Ones you have to capture and make submit to you?” The words tumbled out of her mouth without thought.
Buzz narrowed his eyes. His nostrils flared. “It’s not time yet for me to take your innocence,” his strained voice grit out. “And, for your lack in restraint in speaking to me, you will spend all night on the porch.”
“Yes, my love.” The dismal words seemed to fall on deaf ears. Doing as he’d instructed, she crawled behind him out to the back of the house.
He cranked open the windows. She undressed from the white shirt and gray skirt uniform, stepped forward and presented her hands in the air to be secured. Once she was in place, he took the dildo with the long horsehair attached to it and whipped her with the strands. Her ass cheeks burned and clenched each time they were marked with the lashes.
“Ah, what a lovely shade of deep pink my dear, like a nice piece of medium rare steak.” He slapped the area with his hand, then prepped the dildo and her anus with lube. Buzz shoved the toy up her ass.
The hairs danced in the breeze coming through the open windows and tickled her thighs.
Pins were placed on her nipples. She did her best to not react to the shooting pains zinging through her breasts. A blindfold covered her eyes.
Metal clanking and scraping sounded nearby. He didn’t leave the area as he normally would? Not liking the change in routine, the fact he stood somewhere close to her sent her nerves and heart racing.
Seconds later, a cold structure pressed against her abdomen. She recognized the cool metal to be the step ladder which usually sat in the corner. The apparatus pushed against her. When she heard the whiz of his zipper, she opened her mouth and granted him access. There was no use trying to fight him considering the position she was in.

Thanks for having me on your blog today! Here’s a bit more about me, where you can find me & buy the book…

Interview with Mackenzie Williams @sirenbookstrand #bdsm The Orchard:Save Me

Hope you're having a great weekend, folks. I've snared the lovely Mackenzie Williams for you. She's in my hot seat, answering my nosy questions and telling us all about her story, The Orchard: Save me, which is now available from Amazon.

So, grab a cuppa, settle down, and give Mackenzie a warm welcome!

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

A. ….. I am a small town girl from the Midwest. I grew up in a large family with four younger brothers. After high school, I went to college and studied Education. I found my future husband there and we were married soon after graduation.

I started writing in the Erotic Romance genre because these are the types of stories I like to read myself. They are exciting and emotional. When I'm not writing, I like to turn my brain off and listen to music or watch movies.

Q. What made you write ‘this’ story?

A. ….  This is the second book in my Orchard series.  I started these books because I really like the idea of a BDSM club where things might seem over the top but everyone is safe.

Q. Tell us about your cover.

A. …..  I wanted a simple but dramatic cover.  It is Master Brad standing with Megan who is tied up holding an apple to represent The Orchard.

Q. Describe a typical day’s writing for us

A. ….  I don't get the chance to write everyday but on days I do, I start out with a quick run.  Then after some coffee, I try and write until lunch.  After a long break, I come back to writing before supper.  After that, my brain is usually mush.

Q. What inspires you?

A. ….  I get inspiration from books I've read, movies, or music.

Q. If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

A. ….  I'm not really sure.  I feel like I found writing at just the right time.

Q. Do your characters ever surprise you?

A. ….  Yes.  There have been several times when I think that the story is heading in one direction but the characters seem to take over.  They seem to sometimes have their own thoughts on where the story should go.

Q. What could you not do without when you’re writing?

A. ….  Coffee!

Q. What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?

A. ….  I am pretty new to writing but my advice would just be to try and squeeze in as much writing time as you can.  Daydream, take notes, and then work hard at putting the story on paper.

Q. Where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

A. …..  Hopefully, still writing but I would like to stretch out into other genres but never leaving this one completely.

Q. Do you have a favourite quote?

A. ….  I'm not sure I have a favorite but here is one I like and can attest to.
"Speak when you are angry - and you'll make the best speech you'll ever regret."
Dr. Laurence J. Peter quotes

Q. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?

A. …  Luckily so far, if I do have a block it is usually just me not being able to decide where things are going.  Talking out the story helps me a lot.  Even if no one is listening.

Q. What other books can your readers look forward to?

A. ….  I am currently working on the third Orchard book.  The new one follows Master Cole and Samantha.

Q. And finally can you share the blurb and excerpt with us?

Blurb:

Megan's first party at The Orchard didn't go well. Her fears caused her to panic and she was told she wasn't ready for the BDSM club. She just couldn't walk away, though. Megan felt that Master Brad was the man she had been looking for. A Master that she could trust and would make her happy.

Master Brad has seen something in Megan that has peaked his interest and decides to give her another chance. The pairing was going well and the Dom was even thinking about giving Megan his apple necklace, a club symbol of ownership.

Things soon get complicated, however, when someone from Megan's past comes back into her life. Her ex, Tate, just won't let her move on. Can she overcome her fears and her past for a future with Master Brad? Can her Dom protect and save her?

Excerpt:

Brad gently pushed Megan’s head down so it was resting on his chest. He rested his chin on the top of her head and took a minute to just feel how good she felt in his arms.

“Little one, I have no intention on playing with anyone else anytime soon or letting you fall for someone else.”

Brad could feel his sub relax into his hold. Is this what others feel with their long-term subs?

After a minute of hugs, Brad was leading Megan through the main room with drinks in tow. His sweet had tensed when they first entered the room, presumably because she was still shy about walking around in her underwear. After a few minutes, she had relaxed.

It didn’t take him long to spot Master Jesse and his necklaced sub sitting nearby.

“May we join you?” Brad spoke to his fellow Dom. He noticed right away that Kellie shot her gaze down the minute he had started to speak. Master Jesse had such an obedient one but maybe too boring, Brad thought.

“Of course. Please.” Master Jesse gestured to a neighboring couch.

Brad signaled his sub to take a seat but before he could sit next to her, Master Nathan came up and put a hand on his shoulder.

“Master Brad, would you please come with me to the office? Security needs to speak with you briefly.”

“Security?” Megan spoke out of turn.

Brad turned and gave his slave a disapproving glare. Megan turned her head to look at the floor. At least she has the courtesy to look guilty, Brad thought. The Dom returned his stare to Master Nathan.

“Certainly.” Brad then turned to his friend. “Master Jesse, will you please keep an eye on my little one for me?”

“Yes, of course.”

Brad gave Megan a reassuring squeeze on the back of her neck. She looked up at him with a little concern in her eyes. Brad managed a small smile and then turned to follow Master Nathan. Truthfully, he was a little concerned as well. What did security want with him?

The two men walked up the back stairs and entered the office. There were two security personnel inside the office. One was sitting at the computer.

“Master Brad, we just wanted to advise you about something we saw earlier in the parking lot,” the man at the computer said.

Confusion spread through Brad. “OK.”

“On camera we have your sub arriving and exiting her car. The thing that concerned us is that she was followed.”

A Mile High - Interview with Bethany Kris @BethanyKris #newrelease @evernightpub

Hello, peeps. I seem to have floated down from my release day excitement at last, so today I have fellow Evernight Author Bethany Kris in my hot seat. Show her some love!

****

Hello everyone! Before I get started, let me just first thank Doris O’connor for hosting me here today and giving me the chance to share a bit more about who I am as an author.

You're very welcome! So, let's get on with the interview.

*rubs hands in glee*

Q. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

A. I’m an almost twenty-four year old Canadian mother, lover, and author who has just recently decided to take a chance in the world of publishing. I enjoy far too many things that are bad for me, like coffee, cigarettes, and my computer. I work way too much, don’t write nearly as often as I’d like to, and try to enjoy every moment of it that I can in between.

Q. What made you write ‘this’ story?

A. A Mile High came from my need to escape. Stress mostly. Life stress, work stress, family stress, writing stress. I needed something lighthearted and enjoyable, something that wasn’t going to drain me to write, and this is what came of it.

Q. Tell us about your cover.

A. The cover art for A Mile High came from Sour Cherry Designs. I really didn’t want it to be too pornographic, but still erotic and sensual. I also didn’t want a great deal involved around the main people that would draw the attention away from the main theme, and that the color yellow would somehow be a focus. And of course, a plane had to be added in there. It turned out great, so much better than I could have hoped for, honestly.

Q. Describe a typical day’s writing for us

A. I work nights from 11pm to 7am, so I only get to write on my days off and an hour or so before I leave for work. When I do get a good writing session in, it’s usually when my kids aren’t running around, my hubby is out for the day, and my cats are sleeping at my side. That very rarely happens, so I make do with my hour here and there.

Q. What inspires you?

A. Everything. Music, people, my children, dreams, pictures. Even my own general circumstance can push me to write a world that lets me escape into it for a short time. That’s what drew me to writing in the first place. I try to see beauty in things—anything.

Q. If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

A. Well, in my life outside of writing, I work in retail. So, I suppose that’s where I’d still be. But, if I ever go back to school, it’d be for an English Major.

Q. Do your characters ever surprise you?

A. If I’m not writing a particularly emotional, angst filled story, then yes, my characters always manage to surprise me. I don’t generally write happy, funny characters that give you no heartache, but that’s what A Mile High turned out to be. No one was more surprised than me over these two characters.

Q. What could not do without when you’re writing?

A. Cigarettes and coffee, completely need those two things. I suppose if I didn’t have my spouse calling over his shoulder and my youngest son trying to kill my laptop out of jealousy, it would feel like I was missing my left hand, also.

*giggles at the laptop comment* My two year old does that too!

Q. What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?

A. Keep going. Not two days after my first full length was rejected, A Mile High was accepted at Evernight. A part of the process is learning, about the world you’re stepping into, about yourself, and everyone else around you. So regardless of how much it sucks to get those rejections, don’t stop.

Wise words indeed.

Q. Where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

A. Writing, always, always writing. Although, by then I’ll have teenage—or soon to be teenaged—sons, so I’d bet there will be a whole new heartache and headache waiting then, too.

*Keeps her lips firmly zipped* I have three teens in the house right now ;-)

Q. Do you have a favourite quote?

Put your pen to paper and bleed.

Q. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?

Yes, and I was having the most terrible time with it about a month ago. There’s nothing I can do to get rid of it except keep writing. Write if it sounds like crap, write if I’m being totally repetitive, write even if I know I’m going to throw it out. I just have to force myself to continue. Eventually, it gets better and then goes away completely.

Q. What other books can your readers look forward to?

As of now, I’m working on two. A Love Unfinished, a paranormal/shifter romantic erotica which is nearly finished, just adding some pieces here and there to work my time line better. And The Scandal of Three, a multiple partner/ménage trios romantic erotica.

Whether or not they ever see the light of day is to be decided by a publisher, I suppose. I hope you get to see them, though.

Fingers crossed :-)

And finally can you share an excerpt with us?

A small teaser from A Mile High:

“Close your eyes,” he demanded in a quiet murmur.
I did just that, listening as the heels walked past without stopping or hesitating as they went. I sighed heavily under my breath, finally looking back at Sal who grinned from his seat, thick cock seated in the palm of his large hand that stroked up and down the hard length languidly.
He made my body shiver just by looking back at me through hooded eyes. Relaxed in his seat, feet braced to the floor and legs spread, waiting, Sal was glorious. He didn’t seem the least bit fazed by the attendant not far from our cubby, or the fact that the people in front of us very well might have heard his sexy grunts as he fucked my mouth good and hard like he wanted to. In fact, he was anything but … no nerves showing, no hesitation in his actions as he caressed his own cock, waiting for me to make the move we both knew I wanted.
Like sin in the flesh, that’s what he looked like.
Devilish.
Teasing.
Immoral.
Daring and wanton.
Sitting with his jaw set hard, tilted up to stare me down, he displayed a grin so wicked, urging me forward.
I didn’t falter when I stood.

Sounds fab!

Again, thank you to Doris for hosting me. She’s a wonderful lady.

The cheque is in the post. *grins*

Have a great day!

The Greatest Fight Of All - Interview with Dixie Lynn Dwyer #new release @sirenbookstrand

Hey, peeps. I'm in a slightly overexcited state today, because I'm off to meet the crazy ladies of my critique group in London today. Not entirely sure the city will ever be the same again....
*grins*

I have a treat on my Blog for you today. Enjoy this little insight into Dixie Lynn Dwyer and her latest release.

Blurb

Amelia Jennings fights for a new life. All alone, after losing her brothers and father to the consequences of war, she evades an abusive relationship. She fears military men, dominant men, and especially men who like to fight for a living, just like her ex-boyfriend.
As she tries to adapt to her new life, she attempts to avoid her best friend's brothers, who turn her on in a way she definitely isn’t used to. Mènage relationships are common, but these particular men scare her and remind her of the past she is trying to forget.
The Haas brothers, Murphy, Waylon, Brody, Ricky are tough, set in their ways, and now interested in their sister’s friend. Amelia is the only woman to get under their skin. She fights them tooth and nail, evades their every attempt at seduction, and makes them want things and feel things they never thought they would. They want her in their bed, and their claiming ownership. Standing in the way of happiness is her past, and one man who vows to get her back.

EXCERPT

She decided that coffee would help clear her head before she took a shower. She walked through the hallway and into the kitchen, halting as she saw the large, shirtless man standing there.
She gasped and Waylon turned around to face her.
He looked her over and widened his eyes.
“Morning.”
“Uhm, what are you doing here?”
He turned on the pot of coffee then walked closer. The man had a gorgeous chest. It was lightly dusted with hair that led down to his jeans. He was so defined, and she gulped in appreciation of his sculptured body. He was a boxer and had a rigorous workout routine. She knew enough about that from Mano.
The thought placed a heap of fear into her gut as she turned to look away.
“You were kind of out of it last night. My brothers and I were worried that you could hurt yourself during the night,” he said then looked at her from head to toe. Instantly her nipples hardened, and she realized she shouldn’t be standing here half naked.
He looked her over again. “You make it a habit of walking around in your panties?”
“No, I don’t. But then, this is my place isn’t it?” she asked with attitude then walked around the island, away from him, and reached up to grab two mugs for the coffee.
“I appreciate you staying. It wasn’t necessary.”
“I thought otherwise.” They held one another’s gaze.
“I don’t need a babysitter, Waylon.”
“You did last night.”
“Really?”
“Sure did. You stripped down to your thong panties and bra that covered hardly anything in front of a bunch of drunk cowboys. You’re lucky we were there.”
She slammed her hand down on the counter then stalked toward him.
“Get out, Waylon. I don’t sleep around.”
There was a knock at the door, but before she could move, Waylon grabbed a hold of her camisole and pulled her toward him. He lifted her up, placed her onto the counter and pressed his body between her thighs. She grabbed onto his shoulders, and now was almost face-to-face. He still towered over her.
His hand moved behind her head as he gripped her hard.
“You need looking after. You’re not going to flaunt this sexy body all over town.”
“I can do whatever I want to do,” she retorted and he ground his teeth before he pulled her closer and kissed her hard on the mouth.
In a matter of seconds he was shoving his tongue between her teeth, and they were battling for control of the kiss.
He made love to her mouth like no one ever had before. He was relentless in his strokes, combined with the exploration of his hands.
She grabbed onto his shoulders. Raised her knees and pressed them against his ribs. His hand grabbed her ass und squeezed her toward him. She ran the palms of her hands up and over his biceps, his shoulder and neck, feeling the power and the muscles beneath her fingers.
In the distance she heard the door close and she knew his brothers were there and her pussy clenched then released her arousal. She moaned into Waylon’s mouth and tried to pull back. He wouldn’t allow it. He held her head and face between both hands and continued to kiss her until she could hardly breathe. When he finally released her lips, they were both panting for air.
He stared at her with frustration in his eyes. “You drive me fucking crazy.”
“You started it.”
“I finished it.”

Dixie was kind enough to answer some questions.

How did you come up with the idea of three men and one woman in a ménage relationship, falling in love equally, passionately, and in such a realistic fashion?

Dixie- The men in the American Soldier Collection Series are kind of complicated. As tough as they are, being ex-military, they have their own fears of commitment, trust and the simple ability of opening up their hearts. These men stick together, just like they did on the front lines. They trust their lives with their brothers. They know all their secrets, their wants and desires, and finding that perfect woman to complete them, also brings them peace, and makes them feel whole again, after all they’ve gone through. It takes a very special woman to win the hearts of three men. So the heroine, has a story of her own.

Do you have a specific formula that you follow when writing ménage romances?

Dixie- No, I do not have a formula when writing. I get an idea, and I just begin typing. The characters are so strong, and bold, they lead the way.

Each story and character are so unique and realistic. Are they based on people you know, or completely fictional?

Dixie- The stories I write are fictional. They are creations of the ultimate man. Not so perfect, maybe even scarred, but waiting for that perfect woman to heal them, complete them and bring them ultimate happiness. A happy ever after is out there for everyone.

How do you write such explicit love scenes with multiple men and one woman, and still keep them apart in a way that is easy for the reader to follow?

Dixie- I believe that if a writer truly writes from the heart and soul, and believes in the characters that they create, then they can easily help the readers distinguish the differences between them. Description of character from the time they are first mentioned in the book, all the way through the story, must be accurate. I write as if the characters are real. I imagine the scenes as they take place, and describe them in that exact way in my writing. It just seems to work.

Is it difficult to come up with such sexy, intimidating, yet sensitive heroes? Do you know where I can pick one or two of them up for me? :)

Dixie- lol. I get asked that all the time. I am sure men like I describe in my books are out there. I have known a few soldiers and men in uniform throughout my life, and all of them have had most of theses characteristics. These men in the story are a woman’s fantasy, but by the way I describe them, give them identifiable attributes as well as weaknesses, truly makes them realistic.

Get to know @ShannanAlbright and her Dark Hunter #paranormal @evernightpub

I have  the extremely talented Shannan Albright in my hotseat today, so do give her a warm welcome, please.

Make yourself at home, Shannan :-)

Thanks so much for having me here today Doris, it still amazes me how supportive our writing community is. One of the many reasons why I love being an author is connecting to wonderful people like you.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Growing up I was called the dreamer of the family, something not always thought of as a positive thing. As a child, I would draw and build stories around my pictures, so writing was a natural extension for me. Recently a family member told me that from now on she would encourage those dreamers she knew. Stating “with hard work and focus dreams can come true. Shannan Albright is proof that dreaming can be a positive thing.”
When not writing I spend my time between oil painting and reading. I love writing paranormal, urban fantasy, historical and fantasy romances because of the world building and rich characters I feel a connection to. I’m drawn to dark, edgy heroes and heroines overcoming impossible odds internal and external.
I’m a "hopeful" Romantic who believes a healthy relationship built on respect and a strong partnership is the key to a happy ever after.

What made you write ‘this’ story?

It started out as a small 500 word story for a magazine.  A small day in the life sort of thing.  After finishing it the story kept nipping at me wanting to be added to. So I expanded the story into a novella about Mari the owner of The Asp. This is where the Enforcers hang out, but in Passion’s Flight her bar played a pivotal part in the story arc. Things in Zeke’s book – up next – really start to pick up, a new arc will be introduced and the stories will become darker, more desperate for the Enforcers. Dark Hunter is the bridge between the series arcs and also gives you a small teaser to the mate of an important character in my book.

Tell us about your cover.

OMG! What can I say? This is exactly what I’ve been looking for in a cover.  Evernight Publishing went beyond my wildest expectations with this one.

So, you like it then! *winks*  Evernight does have some amazing covers.

Describe a typical day’s writing for us

Monday through Friday I have a day job so when I get home around 5 I do about an hour of promo work then write. If I don’t have to cook I can concentrate on just writing until around 9:30 -10 then I get ready for work then next day. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday I write all day, sometimes until three in the morning. When I write I have at least three WIP’s up on my laptop so when I get stuck on one I can go to the next one.

What inspires you?

Art. If you go to my website you can see some of the paintings I did when working on a book. Painting releases my muse to think about something else for a while so I can look at the story I’m writing with fresh eyes and a new perspective.

If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

I’ve been a dancer, choreographer, illustration artist for children’s books, painter. I really can’t think of anything more I would rather do than write.

Do your characters ever surprise you?

Tegan in Passion’s Flight was a source of constant surprise. Never write about a cat unless you are ready for attitude. There were days on end when he refused to talk to me. Gah, I hated him and loved him just as deeply. The stupid, contrary cat.

What could not do without when you’re writing?

My Chorkie, Kamie behind my back in my chair as I write and something to drink. Coffee, tea, water it just has to be wet and cold…except the coffee, can’t stand cold coffee J

What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?

Keep writing don’t stop. Develop a thick skin since not everyone will love your work. Be prepared to work hard and long hours. Learn marketing and the publishing business. Take workshops to hone your skills and for goodness sake write up a five year business plan. It will help you focus on what you need to do.

Where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

New York Times bestselling author sounds great to me. Seriously, my main goal is to be able to write full time and make a living at it. This is what all my energy is going to.

Do you have a favorite quote?

Lol! Oh yeah, I see a light at the end of the tunnel and it isn’t a train.

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?

Not since I work out my blocks, plots, etc with oil painting and working on more than one WIP at a time.

What other books can your readers look forward to?

Dark Desire, Book 4 in Dark Breed Enforcer series, Soul Fire, a paranormal historical and I have an anthology coming this Christmas I’m self publishing with three other authors called A Howling Yuletide. This is just for 2013.

And finally can you share an excerpt with us?

“I will do everything in my power to protect her, even lay down my life if it comes to that.” Navar’s words rang in the still air, spoken as an oath.
“Marcus will be relieved to find out Mari is well protected. I know after the incident with the Preservation Society, he has been concerned for her safety. Someday you must tell me how you secured your release.”
Mari blinked at the two men, feeling left out of the loop in the XY-chromosome chat. Males. Can’t live without them and can’t kill them. Irritation spiked into the red zone, her patience threadbare for the bullshit. Placing her diminutive self between the two towering males, she gave them both a fearless glare and fisted her hands on her hips.
All conversation stopped as they stared down at her with surprise. Good, now she had their attention. “I’ve been alive since the time of Cleopatra. I didn’t survive all those centuries by being a fucking weak female. I can fight, strategize, and I damn well have enough intellect in this ‘girly’ brain to figure out what I need to do to save my own hide, thank you very much. Now, if you don’t mind talking to me, not about me, it would be appreciated and might save your ball sacs from relocating somewhere north on your body. Are we clear, boys?”
Adrian threw his head back and roared a large rolling laugh that reverberated throughout the room. She blinked in surprise. She’d never once seen any enforcer laugh. Sure, they smiled, chuckled, and even smirked, but never laughed. She found it…disconcerting.
“Point taken. You will have your hands full with this little hellion, hunter. I don’t envy you.”
“Little hellion indeed. Yet well worth the extra trouble,” Navar agreed, his pale eyes darkening with hunger.

This sounds fabulous. Share the blurb with us too, please.

BLURB:
Vampire Mari Ankamunan struggles to pick up the pieces of her life after her bar The Asp becomes a war zone between the Enforcers and members of the Preservation Society, who want all dark breeds wiped out. The sudden appearance of the only man she ever loved brings her world to a crashing halt, for she witnessed his brutal murder two thousand years ago.
Navar’s spoken oaths to his Sire cost him Mari. Torn from her side by the sidhe queen, he is her Hunter, delivering justice for crimes against the breeds. Now freed he returns to his lovers side only to be caught in a dark plot where Mari is targeted for death.
The stakes are high, can they uncover a deadly plot against the Enforcers or will Navar lose Mari, forever by an assassin’s hand?

Get to know Douglas Black @DBlackErotica #mm #newrelease @evernightpub

Please join me in giving warm welcome to Douglas, who has agreed to be my next victim in the hot seat.

*rubs hands*

So, Douglas... Great to have you here

Tell me, who is Douglas Black?

My name is Douglas Black, and I write M/M erotic fiction. My mother doesn’t know what I do, and it is probably best for the longevity of both of our lives that things stay like that. My friends? Mostly they find it funny. I just like to write. I like to take people on a journey with me to somewhere they may never have been before, with characters they have never met before, and I hope we all end up happy when the last page has been read. There’s not much more to it than that, really!

Can you tell us a bit more about yourself?

I was born and raised in bonnie Scotland where I still live. I would rather be living in a beautiful Venetian townhouse, spending my days drinking prosecco and looking out over the lagoon, but I don’t have the money to make that a reality. Yet. Maybe one day, if the books sell well enough!
I started writing adult romances and erotica back when I was in university. I enjoyed doing it, which made things easier, but more importantly it brought in some much needed extra money. I continued to write for websites and magazines a while after graduation, but eventually life took over and I ended up with a ‘real’ job. I only came back to writing seriously in 2012.

What made you write ‘this’ story?

Truthfully, I don’t really know. The main characters, Mark and James, just came to me one day and from then on I couldn’t get them out of my head until I wrote down their story. I was also inspired by the nature of their relationship. Theirs is a secret love affair and I wanted to explore what pressures being forced to hide your relationship would put on a person. I wanted to know how my characters would cope.

Tell us about your cover.

I love my cover. It was designed by Sour Cherry Designs and I think it captures the mood of the story perfectly. I love the darkness of the highland landscape in the background and the rippling water to the fore. The main model is suitably broody and – let’s face it – you can’t really go wrong with a bit of flesh on show, can you?

Describe a typical day’s writing for us

I get up early, even when I don’t particularly want to. I’m often up before dawn. That time in the morning when the house is quiet and still is perfect for bringing a steaming mug of tea into my study, sitting down and starting to write. (Or, more often than not, sitting down and staring at a blank computer screen.) In the evenings, if I’m feeling inspired or if I haven’t reached my word count, I’ll continue writing until I start typing jibberish on the page. Then I know it’s time to stop.

What inspires you?

Different things at different times; inspiration can come from anywhere. I just always try to write books that I would enjoy reading. I think that’s the most important thing any author can do.

If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

An artist, maybe? I used to be quite good (I think!).

Do your characters ever surprise you?

All the time! I try to follow Stephen King’s advice in ‘On Writing’ so I don’t plot too much. As a result, more often than not, I just dump my characters into situations and see what they do. They never end up doing what I would expect them to do.

What could you not do without when you’re writing?

When I write, I try to limit distractions as much as possible. It’s just me, my laptop, and a notebook. If anything ever happened to my laptop, I’d be devastated, which reminds me – I really should back up my files again!

What words of wisdom do you have for the aspiring authors out there?

‘Write’. That’s all anyone can say. If you don’t write because you’re nervous or you don’t think you’re good enough, you’ll never make it.  If you do write, you’ll get better all the time.

Where do you see yourself in ten year’s time?

I’m still hankering after that Venetian townhouse, so hopefully there!

Do you have a favourite quote?

‘A man is nothing without a spice of the devil in him,’ – Charlotte Bronte

Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?

No. Just the occasional bout of laziness!

What other books can your readers look forward to?

I’m currently working on a new novel. It’s set on a flower farm, and draws upon my experiences of working on a flower farm when I was younger.  I hope to have it finished by the end of the summer.

And finally can you share an excerpt with us?

Excerpt from ‘A Secret Love’ -
Mark returned the kiss passionately. James trembled in his arms. Tension coursed through his body and he could feel it mirrored in Mark’s. He could almost taste the other man’s nerves in his kiss. James savoured Mark’s strong arms around him. He pushed his hands inside Mark’s suit jacket and clung to the warm, toned body underneath. The body was so familiar despite the amount of time that had passed since their last meeting.
“God I’ve missed you,” James said when he finally pulled away. Mark was breathless and didn’t respond at first, but the sexy, playful smile on his lips told James everything he needed to know. James took his hands and led him further into the room.
It was a large suite with living area and a huge bathroom. Mark swung a new sports bag, bright orange and emblazoned with sponsorship logos, off his shoulder and dumped it onto one of the two couches. He paused momentarily, reaching into his suit pocket.
James watched as Mark pulled out his phone and turned it off without checking for messages. He waited patiently until Mark had tucked it safely into his bag and smiled at him when he had finished. “Difficult getting away this time?” he asked.
Mark nodded. “I left as soon as I could. I was so scared I was going to miss the flight. I’m sorry it had to be mid-week this time. Will you get in trouble at work?”
            “I have the flu.”
Mark smirked. “You look perfectly healthy to me.”
“It came on all of a sudden,” James said, closing the space between them. “Unexpected. Probably be gone in a few days. You know how these things are.” Mark nodded and James slipped into his arms once more. With his head on Mark’s shoulder, he turned to whisper against the other man’s neck. “I wouldn’t have been able to stand it if you had missed the flight, if you had cancelled. It’s been so long. It’s always so long.”

Sounds fab. Give us the blurb too, please.

James is nervous when he pulls into the car park of the secluded and conservative Caledonian Hotel. He slips off his wedding ring, gives a false name at reception and checks into his room.

When Mark finally arrives James expects their time together to conform to the usual pattern, but Mark surprises him. Mark wants candlelit dinners and walks on the beach. James, well, James just wants to make up for lost time. More importantly, he doesn’t want to get caught. They have six months left before they can leave behind everything they know and start a new life together and James is desperate to be discrete. Unfortunately, he never could control himself around Mark. Throw in an interfering old couple and some very public displays of affection and Mark and James’s short hotel stay might just be about to destroy not only the secrecy that has always shrouded their relationship, but also their plans for a future together.

Where can we get this gem?

 Author bio

Douglas Black was born and raised in bonnie Scotland. He started writing erotica as a means of paying the bills when he was a student at university, but after graduation he found he no longer had the time to write. Over the summer of 2012, Black picked up a pen once more. After a brief, successful flirtation with self-publishing, Black’s novella ‘Business or Pleasure’ was picked up and released in April 2013. It quickly made the publisher’s best-sellers list. Douglas Black’s short story, ‘A Secret Love’, was published in July 2013 by Evernight Publishing.
